Putnam County Chamber AdvantagesWhat is a Chamber of Commerce? We are your voice in Putnam County representing you on state and local regulations and decisions that affect your business. We can save you time and provide information we have available to make your business operate more efficiently. The Chamber is a private independent non-profit organization supported entirely by its members. It is not a governmental agency and does not receive outside funding. It is not a donation to a charity, but a good business investment. 97% of the dues are tax deductible as a business expense.
Promotion of Putnam County and Its Businesses
A. Membership Directory ? Print 3,000 copies annually
- Distribute to each Chamber member
- Distribute to newcomers in the area through Realtors
- Distribute to newcomers through the Putnam/Kanawha Welcome Agency
- Place in high traffic areas, such as Library, School Board office, Banks, etc.
- Distribute extra copies to the Convention & Visitors Bureau
B. Business Referrals to Chamber members and the general public
C. Ribbon Cuttings, ground breaking & grand opening celebrations are conducted to welcome new businesses and growth of present members Business Input into Government
- Lobbying efforts are completed for Chamber members each year by the Chamber President (Strong emphasis in representing small businesses)
- Representation is provided for members at local governmental meetings such as, County Commission
- Involvement with other Boards is completed by the President to broaden the awareness of key issues and provide the ability to keep members informed
Communication & Business Information
- Staff compilation is updated annually regarding demographic, economic and statistical facts
- Provide one-on-one business counseling and business start-up workshops on a monthly basis at our office through the WV Small Business Development Center from Charleston
- Your local Chamber has resources with the state and national Chamber of Commerce
- Members will have their businesses listed and linked on the Chamber website
- Complete a monthly newsletter in the Metro Putnam version of the Charleston Newspapers (distribution of 20,000+ copies) and the Putnam Herald, as well as email the same newsletter to each member with an email address. Presently, approximately 400 people receive this version.
- Members can submit news to appear in the ?Member News? section This information must be provided by the 15th of the month preceding the month a member wishes the information to appear.
- Members may not submit news that would appear as a word ad, however, when appropriate, the member might provide us with the information and allow us to brag on their news.
