Regional Intergovernmental Council (RIC) Announces Upcoming Public Meeting on the Teays Valley Transportation Study

Hurricane, WV, February 8, 2011 – The Regional Intergovernmental Council announces an upcoming public meeting detailing the development of a multi-modal transportation plan for the Teays Valley area of Putnam County, WV.The open-house-style meeting will be held on March 3, 2011 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Mountain View Elementary School, 3967 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, WV.

Residents, business owners, and other interested individuals are invited to attend the meeting to learn more about the plan and provide input to it. Project staff will be available to provide information about the plan, solicit input, and answer questions pertaining to it. Maps and other visual aids will display problem areas and issues already identified and note new locations as directed by attendees.

The plan seeks to identify existing and potential future deficiencies in the area’s transportation system and develop solutions to them. Among the goals of the plan are to increase the efficiency of the transportation system and improve traffic flow and also to increase transportation options by creating greater opportunities for bicycle, pedestrian, and mass transit usage.

The general study area includes Teays Valley, with limits of the Kanawha River to the east, the CSX railroad right-of-way to the south, the Putnam County line to the west, and Interstate 64 to the north, with the inclusion of the triangle bounded by I-64, WV 34, and US 35, and the general area surrounding the Hurricane Marketplace Shopping Center near the intersection of I-64 and CR-19.

Questions or comments about the project can be submitted by calling 1-304-225-5111, sending an email to urs@movingteaysvalley.com, or writing to:
